I'm in the second row because that's where I can follow the professor best. Then the discussion starts. Classmates speak from all over the room — and following the conversation becomes more complicated.

The discussion begins
The best seat for the lecture isn't always the best seat for discussion.
I'm close to the professor, but my classmates can speak from anywhere. A quiet voice from behind me can be harder to follow, while someone farther away may be easier to hear simply because they speak more loudly.
In a discussion, listening also means finding the person who's speaking.
